1. This Act may be cited as the Vice-Presidential Emoluments Act.
2. There shall be paid to the Vice-President —
(a) a monthly salary of R35,000 payable in arrears;
(b) at the end of each year, or where the office of Vice-President becomes vacant before the end of a year, on the occurrence of the vacancy, a gratuity of an amount equal to 25% of the total salary for that year or that part of the year, as the case may be; and
(c) upon ceasing to hold the office of Vice-President, otherwise than by being removed under article 74(5) of the Constitution, a gratuity of an amount equal to 50% of the total salary paid for the immediately preceding period of office as Vice-President.
3. (1) There shall be paid to a person ceasing to hold the office of Vice-President otherwise than by being removed under article 74(5) of the Constitution –
(a) a monthly pension payable in arrears, of an amount equal to 75% of the monthly salary of the Vice-President under paragraph 2 (a);
(b) at the end of each year or, where the payment for any reason ceases before the end of a year, on the occurrence of such event, a gratuity of an amount equal to 75% of the gratuity payable to the Vice-President under section 2(b).
(2) A pension or gratuity payable under subsection (1) shall cease if the person to whom such pension or gratuity is paid is elected President or paid any salary, gratuity or pension under the Ministerial Emoluments Act or the National Assembly Members’ Emoluments Act.
4. The salary, pension and gratuity paid under this Act shall be exempt from tax on income or profit.
