In exercise of the powers conferred by section 76 read with section 165 of the Civil Status Act, the Minister responsible for civil status makes the following regulations—

1. Citation

These regulations may be cited as the Civil Status (Celebration of Marriage Fees) Regulations, 2019.

2. Interpretation

In these regulations—"Act" means the Civil Status Act;"conveyance" means a convenient mode of transport provided to a civil status officer from his or her place of residence to the place where the marriage is to be celebrated and return to his or her place of residence;"outside office hours" means a time other than Monday to Friday between 0800hrs to 1600 hrs and a public holiday; and"party" means a party to the marriage and the term "parties" shall be construed accordingly.

3. Fees for marriage celebration

(1)A request to celebrate a marriage outside office hours or at a private house or place under section 76 of the Act shall be accepted and carried out only on payment of the fees specified in the Schedule.
(2)The fees payable under subregulation (1) shall not include the allowance to the officer for celebrating the marriage, provision of conveyance, the cost of conveyance or the cost associated with the provision of accommodation under subregulation (3).
(3)Where a marriage is celebrated on an island other than Mahé, Praslin and La Digue the parties shall provide conveyance to the civil status officer or an allowance in lieu of conveyance and where return on the same day is not practicable, the parties shall provide the civil status officer with suitable accommodation for the night.

4. Allowance for civil status officer

A civil status officer who celebrates a marriage outside office hours or at a private house or place shall be paid an allowance equivalent to 50% of the applicable fees specified in the Schedule.
