THE REPUBLIC

versus

GILBERT JULIEN

Heard: 28th March 2016

Counsel: Mr. Chinnasamy, for the Republic

Mr. Lesley Boniface for the

Delivered: 28th March 2016

  1. I have considered the plea in mitigation made by learned counsel for the accused. I consider the fact that he is 37 years of age and he is a first offender. I also consider the fact that he has pleaded guilty without wasting the time of court thereby expressing remorse and regret the incident. And in doing so is also expecting the leniency of court in sentencing.

  1. Having considered all these facts before court and points urged by learned counsel in mitigation, I proceed to sentence the accused to a term of two and a half years imprisonment. Times spent in remand account towards the sentence. He has right to appeal from sentence in a period of 30 days.

Signed, dated and delivered at Ile du Port on 28th day of March 2016
